My Rating:

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5

Description:

Single mom Jess Davis is a data and statistics wizard, but no amount of number crunching can convince her to step back into the dating world. After all, her father was never around, her hard-partying mother disappeared when she was six, and her ex decided he wasn’t “father material” before her daughter was even born. Jess holds her loved ones close but working constantly to stay afloat is hard...and lonely.

But then Jess hears about GeneticAlly, a buzzy new DNA-based matchmaking company that’s predicted to change dating forever. Finding a soulmate through DNA? The reliability of numbers:This Jess understands.

At least she thought she did, until her test shows an unheard-of 98 percent compatibility with another subject in the database: GeneticAlly’s founder, Dr. River Peña. This is one number she can’t wrap her head around, because she already knows Dr. Peña. The stuck-up, stubborn man is without a doubt not her soulmate. But GeneticAlly has a proposition: Get ‘to know him and we’ll pay you. Jess—who is barely making ends meet—is in no position to turn it down, despite her skepticism about the project and her dislike for River. As the pair are dragged from one event to the next as the “Diamond” pairing that could launch GeneticAlly’s valuation sky-high, Jess begins to realize that there might be more to the scientist—and the science behind a soulmate—than she thought.

“Laugh-out-loud, sweet, charming, and humorous” (Library Journal, starred review), The Soulmate Equation proves that the delicate balance between fate and choice can never be calculated.

My Thoughts:

I am a big fan of Christina Lauren and her style of writing. I picked this one up on audiobook and knew from the description that I was going to love it. This book was both funny, addicting, and adorable all in one.

First off, I loved the character of Jess and her willingness to do anything for her daughter. Her friend kept trying to get her to go on dates and she was willing to forgo all of that to spend time with her. Jess is a great example of a hard-working, single mom who is trying to do the best for her daughter. Then there was the whole DNA test that can connect you by compatibility with others and that was fascinating on its own. It is an interesting idea (if it hasn't already been researched - someone needs to do it!).

Then comes River who is quite stubborn and seems like he would be a bore to be around. After the DNA test that confirms they are a 98% match and the company offers to pay Jess to spend time with him - they start to fall for each other. I adored their relationship once it started to bloom and how he welcomed Jess' daughter with open arms. They truly seemed like a good fit.

This book had me laughing along with some of the things that were said. It does have a bit of a spice level to it but I would only give it a 2/5 for spice. It is an easy read that you can get through quite quickly. If you choose to go the audiobook route - the narrator is great! The only thing that made this book a 4-star rating for me is not getting closure in the ending with one certain thing (not wanting to give anything away - but you will know when you read it!).

I highly recommend this book though for fans of a good rom-com read and for those who like Christina's writing.
