Pendergast-the world's most enigmatic FBI Special Agent-returns to New York City to investigate a murderous cult.
William Smithback Jr., a prominent New York Times reporter, was killed in a brutal attack in his Upper West Side apartment. His wife, Nora Kelly, an archeologist at the Museum of Natural History, was injured as well. Multiple eyewitness identified the assailant as a neighbor n the building, Colin Fearing: a man who, by all reports, dead and buried ten days ago.
While Captain Laura Hayward leads the official investigation, Pendergast and Lieutenant Vincent D'Agosta undertake their own private-and decidedly unorthodox-quest for the truth. Their serpentine journey takes them to an enclave of Manhattan they never imagined could exist: a secretive, reclusive cult of Obeah and voodoo which no outsiders have ever survived.🔮 dark world of voodoo

The Pendergast series is so highly underrated in my opinion! With its quirky FBI agent to the supernatural-esque cases I cannot get enough!
I love how the characters come and go from this series and we get little updates on their lives - except in this case when Bill gets murdered.
The dark vibes, the creepy cult and with people coming back to life and killing people - this one had me hooked.
I liked how the tale wove its way through the story and seeing it from different angles and different perspectives. The plot itself was perfect and this was truly a fun one to listen to.
The ending truly was not what I expected but I loved the twist on it. Full of tense moments and spots that had me convinced they weren’t going to get out of this one alive.
Highly recommend this series for those who are fans of thrillers that are on the darker side with some supernatural elements at times!
